in 2023, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strategically appointed Union
Minister for Earth Sciences, Kiren Rijiju, as the election in-charge for the
state. The election, set to be held on November 7, marks a significant
political event in the region.
Adding to their election team, the saffron party has also
designated national secretary Anil Antony and Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister
Yanthungo Patton as the party's co-in-charges for the Mizoram Assembly Election 2023. This move demonstrates the party's commitment to a strong campaign
strategy.
Moreover, Jatinder Pal Malhotra has been appointed as the
president of the BJP's Chattisgarh unit, signaling the party's dedication to
expanding its influence beyond Mizoram. These appointments have received
approval from the BJP chief, JP Nadda.
In the last Assembly Election in 2018, the Mizo National Front (MNF) emerged as the dominant party, securing 26 seats, while the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) managed to bag eight seats. The Congress, which was ousted from power, won five seats, and the BJP secured just one seat, indicating the fierce competition in Mizoram's political landscape.
