BJP is considering replacing Ramesh Bidhuri following controversial remarks about Atishi and Priyanka Gandhi. The backlash led to internal party discussions, with potential plans to nominate a woman candidate for the Kalkaji assembly seat.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ramesh Bidhuri’s candidacy for the upcoming Delhi assembly election may be at risk following his controversial remarks about Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. BJP insiders revealed that party president JP Nadda reprimanded Bidhuri shortly after the comments were made public, sparking internal discussions about replacing him with a woman candidate.
Bidhuri, a sitting Lok Sabha MP from South Delhi, was recently nominated to contest against Atishi from Kalkaji in the February 5 election. However, backlash following his remarks has reportedly led to at least two organizational meetings exploring the possibility of canceling his ticket or shifting him to another constituency.
During a public address, Bidhuri commented on Kalkaji’s roads, controversially comparing them to Priyanka Gandhi’s complexion. He also targeted Atishi, referencing her 2018 decision to drop the surname “Marlena” in favor of “Singh,” insinuating a change in her identity.
The remarks prompted Atishi to respond emotionally, condemning the statements and criticizing the level of political discourse. This incident isn’t the first controversy for Bidhuri. In 2023, he faced backlash for communal remarks against BSP MP Danish Ali during a parliamentary debate, costing him a potential cabinet position.

Sources suggest BJP leadership is evaluating several potential women candidates to contest from Kalkaji, though no final decision has been made. The party’s handling of the issue is seen as crucial in light of upcoming elections and efforts to improve outreach among women voters.
