New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has scheduled a legislature party meeting on Wednesday to finalise its choice for Delhi’s new chief minister, following its victory in the assembly elections after 27 years. The party secured 48 seats in the 70-member assembly, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 22.

According to party insiders, the meeting will determine the new legislature party leader, who will subsequently be declared as the chief minister. After the selection, the leader and party lawmakers will meet the lieutenant governor to formally stake claim to form the government. The swearing-in ceremony is set to take place at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday.

BJP has yet to appoint central observers for consultations with the newly elected lawmakers. These observers will gather feedback from the 48 legislators before the final decision on the chief minister’s name is made. The appointment of observers is expected before the meeting.

Several prominent BJP leaders, including Parvesh Verma, Rekha Gupta, Vijender Gupta, Satish Upadhyay, Ashish Sood, Pawan Sharma, and Ajay Mahawar, are being considered for the top post. Party sources indicate that the new Cabinet will reflect diverse community representation, including Jat, Dalit, Purvanchali, Sikh, Uttarakhandi, and Bania leaders.
