BMW Hit-and-Run in Mumbai: Five months after the case was reported, accused Mihir Shah is still on the run

Mihir Shah, son of a Shiv Sena leader, is on the run after a fatal BMW hit-and-run in Mumbai. The accident killed Kaveri Nakhwa, 45. Police have issued a Look Out Circular and arrested Shah's father and driver for aiding his escape.
One such unfortunate accident that took place on Sunday 7th July 2024 involved a BMW car belonging to Mihir Shah, son of Shiv Sena leader, who hit a couple on a scooter and killed the wife of 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa. The accused is still on the run as police up the ante to capture him/her.
Security cameras in the car have revealed that Mihir Shah, 24, was seen driving out of a pub with four friends in a Mercedes car before the occurrence of the accident. According to Mumbai Police, Shah later switched to the BMW, with his driver in the passenger seat, before the fatal collision occurred around 5:The observation was made at 30 AM on Dr. Annie Besant Road.
The extent of the crash was so crushing that Nakhwa, who was a pillion passenger with her husband, Pradeep, was said to have been run over by the speeding BMW for more than 2 kilometers. She was taken to a nearby hospital but was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.
Shah is said to have escaped towards the Bandra-Worli Sea Link after the accident, ditching the car and his driver Rajrishi Bidawat at Kala Nagar in Bandra thereafter going missing.
The Mumbai Police have already got an LOC against Mihir Shah so that he does not escape the country. The accused will be followed by six teams, as per the information, he was drunk during the occurrence of the crime. The police also recovered a bar bill worth ₹18,000 and are working to obtain CCTV footage from the Juhu area bar where Shah was seen consuming alcohol before the tragic incident.
In connection to this case, the police arrested Mihir’s
father Rajesh Shah who is the deputy of the current Maharashtra Chief Minister
Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction from Palghar and the driver Rajrishi Bidawat
for helping Mihir to escape the police arrest. Both arrested people will be
brought before a local court.
The accused have been named in different sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) which includes section 105 which is culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also expressed himself on the subject of the event, affirming that ‘‘law is equal for everyone, and no one will be spared. ’’
