Chandigarh Dibrugarh Express Gets Derailled in Uttar Pradesh; Four Passengers Die

Four passengers died and two were injured when 12 coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district. Rescue operations are underway, with medical teams and ambulances at the site. Several trains have been diverted due to the accident.

Four persons have been killed and two others sustained injuries in the mishap while several coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express were thrown off the track at Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh today. The accident took place in between the stations of Gonda and Jhilahi, near to Pikaura station.

Speaking on conditions of anonymity, Pankaj Singh, the Chief Public Relations Officer of North Eastern Railways said that 12 coaches had jumped the tracks, of which four were AC coaches. This accident occurred a few kilometers before a railway station called Jhulahi. 

Search and rescue has begun, with an immediate response medical team of 40 members and 15 ambulances to the scene. Other ambulances are on their way Over and above fixed equipment, other ambulances are on their way. A number of passengers were observed to be standing by the track with their baggage while others were on what seemed to be an upturned carriage.

To ensure that the victims are provided with all the necessities, the Uttar Pradesh government has ordered district officers to act fast. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the government medical board to provide primary medical aid to the injured ones. Keshav Prasad Maurya, Deputy Chief Minister, also mourned the death and described it as a big loss.

Several trains have been affected numerous of the trains have been rerouted. The affected railways helpline numbers for passengers include – Lucknow & Gonda, among others.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is keenly observing the situation as the train was heading towards Dibrugarh, Assam. This has been confirmed by the State Disaster Response Force that has dispatched four teams to the scene of the accident.

This time the incident has attracted the attention of different political factions. The Congress party condoled the loss and asked its party workers to fully extend their support to the rescue operations.

As probing commence, efforts have been made in ensuring that passengers affected are given a helping hand and normal rail transport restored. The derailment has once again put emphasis on the fact that there are still many risks present in the operation of railways in the country despite the extensive network of tracks.
