China has unveiled its official “standard map,” which incorporates Arunachal Pradesh and the Aksai Chin region as integral parts of its territory. The new map encompasses Taiwan and the contested South China Sea as well, asserting them as Chinese territory.
China’s ministry of natural resources unveiled the map on Monday in Deqing county, Zhejiang province, as reported by China Daily newspaper during the celebration of Surveying and Mapping Publicity Day and the National Mapping Awareness Publicity Week. This announcement follows India’s rejection of China’s efforts to rename 11 locations in Arunachal Pradesh back in April.
Arindam Bagchi, the external affairs ministry spokesperson, had stated in a Twitter post that China’s repeated attempts were not the first of their kind. He emphasized their outright rejection, asserting, “Arunachal Pradesh is, has been, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India,” and he pointed out that efforts to assign fabricated names would not change this fundamental reality.
In response to media inquiries, the Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi, stated that they had lodged a robust diplomatic protest with the Chinese side concerning China’s 2023 “standard map.” He emphasized that India rejects these claims, citing their lack of foundation, and expressed concern that such actions by China further complicate the resolution of the boundary issue.
Dawa Tsering, a Member of the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile, criticized China’s expansionist policy, stating, “China can never be trusted.”
Yeshi Dolma, another Tibetan MP in exile, labeled China’s action as “provocative.” She claimed that China aims to provoke India in anticipation of the G20 Summit scheduled for next month.
