Devendra Fadnavis will be sworn in as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister today in a grand ceremony attended by PM Modi and other leaders. Eknath Shinde’s future role remains unclear. The event showcases the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance’s dominance after a record electoral win.
Mumbai is set to witness a grand political event as Devendra Fadnavis takes oath as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister today at Azad Maidan. The swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for 5:30 PM, will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union ministers, and 19 chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from across India. The event will mark the beginning of a new government under the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance.
Outgoing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde congratulated Fadnavis but kept everyone guessing about his role in the new government. Shinde's statement that he is "happy with the last 2.5 years" of the Mahayuti government hinted at a possible transition, though he did not clarify if he would take the oath as part of the new cabinet. NCP leader Ajit Pawar, set to continue as Deputy Chief Minister, humorously remarked on Shinde’s uncertain role, reflecting the political camaraderie within the alliance.
The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be a grand affair, with arrangements for 42,000 attendees, including 2,000 VVIPs. Security has been ramped up with the deployment of over 4,000 police personnel. The BJP, fresh from a record-breaking win in the November elections with 132 seats, aims to showcase its strength and unity.
