headed Flood Control Committee

Delhi's flood control efforts have hit a roadblock as it was revealed that the CM-headed apex committee responsible for flood management has not convened for the past two years. Despite the recent floods caused by the overflowing Yamuna River in several districts of the Capital, the committee remained inactive, causing concerns among officials at the Lieutenant Governor's office.

In response to the criticism, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government asserted that they have been actively addressing flood and waterlogging issues. They claimed to have regularly reviewed the situation with the ministers of irrigation & flood control and public works, and the Chief Minister himself has been closely monitoring the developments.

Amidst the disaster, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Minister Atishi visited a flood relief camp to assess the damage and offer support to the affected residents. Vinai Kumar Saxena, the Lieutenant Governor, also assessed the regions impacted by the floods.

The apex committee, composed of various government officials and stakeholders, plays a crucial role in coordinating flood control efforts and issuing orders based on potential risks and preparedness. However, the committee's meeting, which should have taken place before the monsoon, didn't occur this year, and even last year, it was disregarded.

The blame game intensified as officials accused the Chief Minister of deliberately avoiding the committee meeting, leading to a poorly executed flood control order. The situation escalated further as other ministers also failed to convene the necessary gatherings.

As water levels continue to rise, the government has come under heavy criticism for its lack of preparedness. However, they defended their actions, stating that the flood control order was issued based on historical data and proper procedures.

The critical panel's responsibilities include monitoring water levels and issuing warnings to safeguard vulnerable areas. It can also seek assistance from the army if necessary. Despite the ongoing finger-pointing, the need of the hour remains focused on addressing the floods effectively and safeguarding the citizens of Delhi.
