Ex-Air Force personnel Anil Kumar Pandey was rescued after jumping onto Jalahalli Metro tracks in Bengaluru. BMRCL staff acted swiftly, restoring Green Line services within 25 minutes. The incident comes shortly after the Green Line’s Nagasandra-Madavara extension began operations, enhancing metro connectivity.
A 49-year-old ex-Air Force personnel, Anil Kumar Pandey, was rescued after jumping onto the tracks at Jalahalli Metro Station on Bengaluru’s Green Line on Monday morning. The incident occurred around 10:25 am, prompting an immediate response from the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) staff and the activation of their Emergency Trip System (ETS).
Fortunately, Pandey was unharmed, and the swift action by metro staff ensured his safety. Train services on the Green Line were disrupted for approximately 25 minutes, during which four trains operated on a shortened route between Yeshwanthpur and Silk Institute Metro stations instead of running to Madavara. Full operations were restored promptly at 10:50 am.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The BMRCL staff received commendations for their efficient handling of the situation, which prevented any injuries or escalation.
This incident briefly disrupted services on the Green Line, a key component of Bengaluru’s expanding Namma Metro network. The Green Line recently extended its route from Nagasandra to Madavara, a 3.14-km addition that officially began operations on November 7, 2024.

The new extension, part of the metro's Phase-2 project, added three stations—Manjunathanagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara—at a cost of ₹1,168 crore. It has improved connectivity to the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) and surrounding areas, benefiting an estimated 44,000 additional passengers daily.
