Uddhav Thackeray claimed Devendra Fadnavis promised to make Aaditya Thackeray the next Maharashtra CM in 2019. Fadnavis denied it, saying Thackeray was hallucinating and he wouldn't even make Aaditya a minister.

Mumbai, April 21, 2024: A new word war has been started between the Shiv Sena party, which is now led by Uddhav Thackeray, and the BJP over the claims of the former that the latter, Devendra Fadnavis had promised to groom the son of the former Aaditya as the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

At a rally in Dharavi yesterday, Uddhav said that in 2019, when Fadnavis was the CM, he had even agreed to make Aaditya the next CM only after 2.5 years as a gesture of goodwill!

"His uncle Devendra Fadnavis told him, 'Uddhav Ji, I will train Aaditya for 2.5 years. We can make him CM after 2.5 years'," Thackeray claimed, adding that Fadnavis had said he would go to Delhi after that.

Contrary to this, Fadnavis has flat-out denied this. "Uddhav Thackeray is hallucinating now as he stated first that Amit Shah would give him the post of CM, now he is saying that I promised him of making his son as CM. He is telling a lie to cover another." This is what Sharad Pawar lashed back.

Fadnavis conceded that he told Thackeray that Aaditya might be groomed to be his successor, for he would be the next leader of the Shiv Sena one day. However, he noted that he would not appoint Aaditya as a minister and subsequently not as a Chief Minister.

The new volley of statements was evoked along with the intensifying political battle in Maharashtra before the Lok Sabha elections. The Shiv Sena broke the tie with the BJP after the 2019 Assembly elections because of the issue of CM rotation.
