Five Killed as Car Plunges into Lake in Telangana, Drink-Driving Suspected

A car plunged into a lake near Jalalpur village in Telangana, killing five and injuring one. Intoxication is suspected, as the victims were traveling late at night to consume toddy. Authorities are investigating the accident, highlighting the dangers of drink-driving, which remains a serious road safety issue in India.

In a tragic accident near Jalalpur village in Telangana’s Yadadri Bhongir district, five individuals lost their lives, and one person sustained injuries after a car veered out of control and plunged into a lake early Saturday morning. The incident occurred in Bhoodan Pochampally Mandal, drawing attention to the perils of drink-driving.

According to local authorities, the victims, all residents of LB Nagar in Hyderabad, embarked on a late-night journey to the rural area to consume fresh toddy. Preliminary investigations suggest that intoxication may have contributed to the mishap. The vehicle reportedly swerved off the road, leading to the fatal plunge.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene after being alerted by locals. Despite efforts, five passengers were declared dead on the spot, while the lone survivor was rushed to a nearby hospital and is undergoing treatment.

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as villagers gathered near the lake to assist in rescue operations. Authorities are working to retrieve the submerged car and recover the victims’ belongings to aid in the investigation.

This accident has raised concerns about road safety and the dangers of drunk driving, which continues to be a significant cause of fatalities in India. Officials have urged residents to exercise caution and avoid driving under the influence.
