Amidst all the chaos due to heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, a red alert has been issued for the same in Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Kullu, Mandi, Kinnaur, and Lahaul for the next 24 hours.Also an orange alert has been issued in Una, Hamirpur, Kangra, and Chamba.

 

Along with heavy rainfall, flash flood warning has been issued for Mandi, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti for the next 24 hours by Senior IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) Scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma.

 

In Mandi, one of the deliberately affected districts by heavy floods and landslides, the administration has set up a relief camp at Beas Sadan for those whose houses have been submerged in the Beas River or who were living in low-lying areas.

The camp is providing food, medicine, and sleeping facilities to those affected by the floods. Citizens are provided with mats to sleep on the floor and can be seen in despair due to their conditions.

 

In the middle of efforts by the administration, one local affected by flash floods in Mandi mentioned that they lost everything as water entered their houses early in the morning around 10-11 am, and were not able to save any of their belongings. He also said that the administration didn't inform them about the evacuation.

Onkar Chand Sharma, Revenue & Disaster management principal secretary gave an overview of the flood situation in Himachal Pradesh. The  unprecedented rainfall for the last 2 days is  caused by coupled monsoon and western disturbances. Due to this 3 of the major connecting bridges have collapsed along with a number of small bridges and roads.

 

Despite these disturbances, the SDRF, NDRF along with the admission were able to successfully rescue people. With the help of drones 6 laborers stranded on the banks of Beas river have been rescued.

 

Major cause of casualties due to floods is due to landslides and collapse of houses.
