The recent visit of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G7 Summit in Italy on Friday only signals India’s rising status in the global system. During his third term inauguration, PM Modi had quite many meetings with different heads of state; for example, President of the USA Joe Biden which proves that they have a good relation even with the recent conflicts.

The meeting between Modi and Biden was something special especially since it took place several months after the United States accused India of involvement in a plot against a Sikh separatist. But both the leaders were clearly indicating their desire and commitment to come forward to serve the humanity. He also spent some time talking to Canadian PM Justin Trudeau whom relations were frosty due to alleged support for the anti-India forces.

In his address during the G7 summit, PM Modi emphasised the importance of ending monopolies in the strategic areas such as Artificial Intelligence. He also had talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni, Japanese PM Fumio Kishida and other officials.

India’s inclusion in the G7, which has also extended an invite to 11 other developing countries mostly from the Indo-Pacific region, further enforces its emerging position as the key partner in the West’s bid to check China’s rise. The summit made it possible for PM Modi to give a message that India is a fast-emerging economic and a political power.

In his departure statement, PM Modi extended his gratitude to the Italian authorities for their warm hospitality to the Indian community and also underscored India’s role in finding effective solutions for the global challenges. This first foreign tour in his new term has placed India in important international discourse, something that can be seen to point towards India’s position in the world today.
