The Rajya Sabha is set for a 16-hour debate on Operation Sindoor, India’s military retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack. With Prime Minister Modi expected to speak, political tensions are high. Meanwhile, protests over Bihar's electoral revision and bipartisan moments mark a pivotal day in Parliament.
The Rajya Sabha is preparing for a marathon 16-hour discussion on Operation Sindoor today, following the Lok Sabha’s charged session on the same. This debate is expected to see participation from top political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, as scrutiny intensifies over India’s military response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack.
Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation to the assault in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 civilians, saw Indian forces strike multiple terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The government claims it was a “strategic and calibrated” military action targeting nine key locations. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh outlined the specifics during Monday’s Lok Sabha debate, highlighting coordination across intelligence and defence units.
The Opposition, led by Congress, is demanding direct answers from the Prime Minister. MP Pramod Tiwari publicly questioned who bears responsibility for the intelligence lapse preceding the Pahalgam tragedy. Meanwhile, Congress MP Manish Tewari’s exclusion from the debate has sparked internal murmurs, amplified by his cryptic social media post that quickly went viral.
The INDIA bloc has also announced a protest against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, citing concerns over electoral transparency. Congress MP Randeep Surjewala has submitted a notice to suspend scheduled business in the Rajya Sabha to prioritise this issue.
Despite political friction, a rare moment of bipartisanship came when NCP MP Supriya Sule praised the Prime Minister for trusting opposition leaders with international delegations post-Operation Sindoor.
