The Chinese government announced the cyber-attack and the stealing of data from the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) – this is according to the reports circulating. We are talking about the fact that the attack allowed the thieves to steal not only names but also bank account numbers of active and retired UK Ministry of Defence members.

On Monday, it is expected that the leaders of parliament will give the officials a detailed brief about the breach that is believed to have been a result of the MoD payroll system. However, Britain’s government has not yet named China as the perpetrator even though all the available evidence indicates state-sponsored hacking attack(s) by sophisticated Chinese actors or groups of hackers targeting the MoD.

Stolen data is a collection of the private information details of the soldiers who are still on active service and veterans who are now retired. Exposing such type of information would have security risks and intelligence trade of the UK with allied nations at stake.

Working efficiently, the MoD helped to stop the leak assuage the employees' anxiety about compensation this month, and provide them with some relevant resources. The payroll company whose systems have been compromised has been seized until the authorities have thoroughly examined the cyberattack that has happened over the past three days.

It is a significant forewarning that the UK and China's relationship may face difficulties during a time when tensions are seething. However, the British government declared only two months ago that these Chinese agents, who are state-supported, are accused of a campaign that targeted the members of parliament and the Electoral Commission.

The Cyber security of the UK is so shaky although after this event. As a result, very pressing questions are being asked about the UK cyber defense mechanisms as well as the probabilities of state-backed cyber warfare which could be devastating to allies and their intelligence sharing. The opposition will be called to task for its oversight role of the matter and the cyber security mechanisms for all national systems.
