DNA-test samples of the cremated body supported the police to realise their mistaken identification assumption and immediately, a search for Deepak was launched. The criminal branch took over the inquiry. On 31st January, Margao local police were conducting standard hotel monitoring. During a random search of a hotel's visitor list near the old railway station road, they found an Aadhar number that revealed Deepak's identity. He was immediately detained and Kerala police were notified who arrived in Goa and took him into custody. Kerala Man-Kerala Man Deepak informed police authorities that he had been to Jaipur, Delhi, and Punjab before landing in Goa recently. He also informed police that he did work for a living in Bogmalo. However, Deepak recently shifted to Margao, which finally brought him under the notice of the police, ending his eight-month disappearance.
