A devastating coal and gas explosion in a Pingdingshan mine, in Henan Province, China, has claimed 10 lives, with six individuals still missing. The tragedy unfolded on Friday, affecting 425 workers, of whom 380 have been rescued. Rescue operations persist, and the coal mine authorities are under custody.

In a tragic incident unfolding in central China's Henan Province, a coal mine accident has claimed the lives of ten individuals, with an additional six still missing, local authorities report. The catastrophe, characterized as a coal and gas explosion "outburst," occurred at approximately 2:55 pm on Friday in Pingdingshan.

The affected coal mine is operated by Pingdingshan Tianan Coal Mining Co., Ltd. At the time of the accident, 425 workers were underground. Prompt response efforts managed to rescue 380 individuals, leaving 45 more to be accounted for. The local government, confirming the ten casualties, highlights the severity of the situation.

China, being the world's largest producer and consumer of coal, has long faced challenges in its mining industry, marked by frequent accidents. Despite this, recent years have seen a reduction in the number of fatalities, yet the Henan incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks involved.
