Himachal Pradesh in Crisis: Landslides And Flash Floods Disrupt Movement on More Than 300 Roads

In Himachal Pradesh, 330 roads have been rendered inaccessible due to landslides and flash floods.
In view of the heavy rainfall forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) over the next two days, the Himachal Pradesh disaster management authority has issued an alert.
The alert has been raised to caution people against the risks and challenges the anticipated rainfall is going to pose.

The monsoon season in Himachal Pradesh has wreaked havoc on the state's infrastructure with landslides and flash floods. Public Works Department Minister, Vikramaditya Singh, issued a concerning report on Thursday, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
He revealed that as many as 330 roads have been forced to shut down due to the devastating impact of these rain-triggered disasters. Among the affected routes, the closure of two main four-lane roads, particularly the Kalka-Shimla road, has further increased transportation difficulties.
The minister expressed his hopefulness as he informed, "In the next 2 days, CM will be meeting PM Modi, Union Home Minister and Finance Minister and I am hopeful they will support us."
The impact of the monsoon in Himachal Pradesh has been devastating, as indicated by the data revealed by the state disaster management authority. Over the course of 41 days since the monsoon onset, nearly 200 deaths have been recorded, with an additional 31 people reported missing.

Out of the 199 reported deaths, 57 lives were tragically lost to landslides and flash floods, while 142 people lost their lives in road accidents or other related incidents. The state disaster management authority further reported, "In Himachal Pradesh, 31 people are missing and 229 people are injured."
The recent natural disaster in Himachal Pradesh has also had a devastating impact on the state's residential areas. The data reveals that a total of 774 houses have been completely damaged, while an additional 7317 houses have been partially damaged by the force of the floods.
The severity of the situation is evident from the 79 landslides and 53 flash flood incidents that have been recorded across the state.
