A Hyderabad woman died, and 15 others fell ill after eating contaminated momos from an unlicensed street vendor in Khairatabad. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation shut down the vendor’s operations and seized food samples for testing. Local police are investigating to prevent similar future incidents.
In a tragic incident, a 33-year-old Hyderabad woman, Reshma Begum, lost her life and 15 others became severely ill after eating momos from a street vendor in the city’s Khairatabad area. Reshma and her daughters, aged 12 and 14, reportedly suffered intense stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea after consuming the snack last Friday. While Reshma succumbed to the illness on Sunday morning, her daughters are under medical care.
The vendor had been selling momos across multiple locations in the Banjara Hills area without proper licensing. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), along with local police, quickly intervened, halting the vendor’s operations and seizing food samples for analysis. GHMC officials suspect severe food contamination and have requested a full investigation by the Banjara Hills Police to determine the cause of contamination.
Ram Babu, sub-inspector at the Banjara Hills Police Station, confirmed the incident, stating that a formal complaint was filed after several victims, including Reshma, showed symptoms of food poisoning. The vendor, reportedly operating without a food license, is now in police custody along with his staff.
