India and Pakistan Prepare for Severe Cyclone Biparjoy's Impending Landfall

Cyclone Biparjoy is forecast to make landfall on the coasts of India and Pakistan on June 15. Authorities in both countries are taking measures because this is the first major cyclone of the year. The evacuation of potentially affected areas has been announced, and fishing operations have been suspended.

Cyclone Biparjoy, which formed in the Arabian Sea, is now bearing down on the southern Sindh region of Pakistan and the coast of Gujarat in India. Maximum sustained winds are expected to approach 150 kph as it makes landfall on Thursday.

The Gujarati coastal areas of Saurashtra and Kutch have been issued an Orange alert by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). On June 15th, a very severe cyclone is forecast to pass across the Jakhau Port in Gujarat. Last week, Biparjoy began as a Low Pressure Area but has now rapidly strengthened into a dangerous storm. Because it has been in the ocean for so long, it has accumulated a lot of energy and moisture, increasing the likelihood of devastating repercussions when it finally makes landfall.

When a cyclone's centre meets a coastline, this is known as making landfall. On Thursday night, Biparjoy is expected to make landfall somewhere between Mandvi in Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan. With sustained wind speeds of 125-135 kmph and gusts up to 150 kmph, the cyclone is classified as a very severe cyclonic storm.

Dwarka, Jamnagar, Kutch, Morbi, Porbandar, Rajkot, and Junagarh are just some of the districts in Gujarat that may feel the effects of the storm. Threats to coastal locations include heavy rainfall, strong winds, and tidal waves. A mandatory evacuation has been ordered, and the government is moving quickly to implement the plan.

Thousands of people have been moved out of low-lying areas in Gujarat, and fishing has been halted there in anticipation of the storm. Teams from both the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force have been sent to Gujarat to aid with rescue efforts. Companies like Reliance Industries and Adani Ports have halted activities, while Pakistani officials are taking precautions in the potentially vulnerable southern and southeastern regions.

After making landfall, the hurricane is expected to wreak havoc on homes, utilities, roads, crops, and plantations. Another potential danger comes from projectiles in the air. India and Pakistan are both taking precautions to protect their citizens from Cyclone Biparjoy.
