Canada’s accusations against Indian officials over Khalistan terrorist Nijjar’s death intensify tensions. Western powers, led by the U.S., appear to challenge India's rise, while Indian leaders defend their national security stance.
Recent tensions between India and Canada have escalated following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations against top Indian officials, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and former R&AW chief Samant Goel. Trudeau claims India was involved in the June 2023 assassination of Khalistan Tiger Force leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, despite acknowledging a lack of concrete legal evidence.
The Western response, especially from the U.S. and the U.K., appears to align with Trudeau's stance, while Australia and New Zealand demand proof before supporting such accusations. These developments, particularly the involvement of U.S. intelligence, further complicate the geopolitical landscape.
Nijjar, a designated terrorist, and Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, another Khalistan advocate facing charges in the U.S., have been pivotal figures in this controversy. Pannun, a vocal proponent of Sikh separatism, has filed legal actions against Indian officials and remains central to Western narratives regarding India’s alleged targeting of Khalistan supporters.
The ongoing friction raises broader concerns about Western powers using the Khalistan issue to exert leverage over India. Shah and Doval, known for their nationalist approach, have consistently defended India's interests, emphasizing lawful measures to combat terrorism. The situation highlights deeper geopolitical maneuvering, with Canada and the U.S. appearing to challenge India's rising global influence.
