Cricket enthusiasts are buzzing with anticipation as the
blockbuster World Cup 2023 match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan unfolds
at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad today. The fervor surrounding this
clash of titans has led to the implementation of elaborate plans to ensure a
smooth flow of both vehicles and security measures in the city.
The Ahmedabad Police have orchestrated comprehensive traffic
arrangements to mitigate congestion during the match. This includes the
issuance of detailed advisories outlining traffic diversions. Several crucial
routes, stretching from Janpath T Junction to the main gate of Motera Metro
Station to Krupa Residency and up to Motera T Junction, have been closed for
general traffic. Motorists are encouraged to explore alternative routes, such
as the road from Tapovan Circle to ONGC Crossroads to Janpath T Junction,
eventually leading to Prabodh Raval Circle. It's vital to note that only
emergency services vehicles, such as fire brigades, ambulances, and government
vehicles, will be permitted on these restricted roads.
To enhance the ease of transportation for spectators, the
Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) has extended metro services within the
city on match days, operating from 6:20 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Additionally, the
Western Railway is contributing to the cause by running Superfast Special
Trains between Mumbai Central and Ahmedabad.
Parking concerns have also been addressed as the
Ahmedabad Traffic Police have encouraged people to pre-book their parking using
the 'Show My Parking' App. This initiative aims to provide a hassle-free
experience amid the rush of match day.
Security remains a paramount concern, and Director
General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahay has assured the safety of hotels, stadiums,
and the routes used by Indian and Pakistani players and support staff.
Approximately 75 chartered flights are expected to operate in and out of the
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, prompting the airport to issue
a separate advisory for regular passengers, advising them to allocate
additional time due to the presence of VIPs.
Advanced surveillance drones, capable of flying for over
12 hours at a height of 120 meters, have been deployed to monitor the area
within a five-kilometer radius around the stadium. Over 11,000 security
personnel, including Gujarat Police, NSG, RAF, and home guards, will be
stationed both in Ahmedabad and at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Specialized
units, such as Chetak Commandos with armored vehicles, will be on high alert
within the stadium premises. The Ahmedabad crime branch, Anti-Terrorist Squad,
and Special Operations Group will be strategically deployed across the city.

The elaborate security setup is under the supervision of
four senior IPS officers of the ranks of inspector general and deputy inspector
general, along with 21 deputy commissioner of police (DCP) rank officers, who
will guide and oversee personnel during the match in Ahmedabad.
Police Commissioner G S Malik declared the city a "no-drone zone" specifically for the India-Pakistan World Cup cricket match, prohibiting the operation of drones, quadcopters, powered aircraft, microlight aircraft, hang gliders, paragliders, paramotors, hot air balloons, and parachuting activities due to the high-profile nature of the match between the two countries.
