The Indian Coast
Guard successfully conducted a daring operation to evacuate a Chinese national
from the Panama-flagged research vessel MV Dong Fang Kan Tan No 2 on Wednesday.
The vessel was en route from China to the UAE when a crew member reported chest
pains and symptoms of cardiac arrest, prompting the urgent need for medical
attention.
The Indian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai received the distress call, sparking a swift and coordinated response. Immediate communication was established with the vessel, and essential telemedicine advice was provided. To ensure rapid evacuation and proper medical care, the decision was made to airlift the patient.
The CG ALH MK-III
helicopter, operated by the Indian Coast Guard, was instrumental in executing
the operation. Overcoming the challenges of the night and extreme weather
conditions, the helicopter successfully evacuated the patient from the vessel,
which was located approximately 200 kilometers off the mid-sea.
Upon evacuation,
the patient received essential first aid and was subsequently handed over to
medical professionals for further treatment. The efficiency and effectiveness
of the operation underscored the dedication of the Indian Coast Guard to their
motto, "We Protect."
This daring
rescue mission exemplifies the commitment of the Indian Coast Guard to
safeguarding lives at sea, even when faced with adverse circumstances. The
operation was a testament to the Coast Guard's preparedness, training, and
readiness to respond promptly to emergencies.
