Indian Woman Sentenced to Two Years in Jail for Stabbing Lover's Wife in Dubai

Dubai, July 6, 2023 - An Indian woman was sentenced to two-year prison after she attacked the wife of her lover with a fruit knife.

As per a report in  Abu Dhabi newspaper The National,  the incident occurred when the 38-year-old woman decided to inform the wife about her 15-year-long relationship with her husband.

The wife sustained two stab wounds on her back, measuring 4cm each, while she was being embraced by the assailant.

 

The attack, which took place in October last year in Dubai, was halted by the husband, who immediately called the police along with their daughter. The injured wife was promptly rushed to a hospital and is currently in stable condition. The attacker later confessed to the police that her intention was not to stab but to merely frighten the wife.

However, during the investigation, the police discovered more than one knife in the assailant's possession.

According to her statement to the police, "He (the husband, who is also reported to be an Indian) brought me to Dubai in 2019, and we began an affair in a rented apartment in Sharjah." The illicit relationship originated in India and continued after their relocation to Dubai.

 

"I called him two hours before the incident and informed him that I was going to meet his family to reveal our affair. He pleaded with me not to come and abruptly ended the call," she added.

 

The convicted woman has filed an appeal, and the case has been transferred to the Court of Appeal. The first hearing is scheduled for July 26.

 

In the meantime, the victim's lawyer has urged the court to order the attacker to pay compensation of Dh51,000 (approximately ₹11.45 lakh) and has warned of initiating a civil lawsuit seeking a larger amount.

 

Separately, in an unrelated case, a construction worker who stabbed an Indian couple in Dubai three years ago has lost his appeal against the death sentence.Hiren and Vidhi Adhiya were attacked while asleep in their home in Dubai on June 17, 2020.

 

The construction worker was found guilty of the couple's murder by the Dubai Criminal Court in April last year.

 

As per a report in The National, the man had planned to rob the money and jewelry he had observed in the house during his work with a maintenance team in December 2019.

 

After stealing Dh1,965 (approximately ₹22,000) in cash from the ground floor, he proceeded upstairs. However, the husband became aware of his presence, leading to a confrontation in which the construction worker fatally stabbed him before turning on his wife.

The Court's decision in the aforementioned appeal case remains final.
