Israel’s recent airstrikes on Lebanon have left 33 dead and 195 injured, following the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Iran has urged the UN Security Council to intervene, while tensions escalate with Hezbollah vowing continued resistance. International reactions include warnings from the US and diplomatic efforts to support a Palestinian state.
Israel launched fresh airstrikes on Lebanon, killing 33 people and injuring 195, escalating the already volatile situation in the Middle East. The strikes followed the killing of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah by Israeli forces, a move that Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described as a historic turning point that could shift the regional power balance. Hezbollah vowed continued resistance, raising fears of an expanded conflict.
Iran has strongly condemned Israel’s actions, urging the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to intervene. Iran’s UN ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, formally requested a UNSC meeting, emphasizing the principle of inviolability regarding Iran's diplomatic premises and representatives. Iravani warned that Iran would not hesitate to exercise its rights under international law to protect its national and security interests against further aggression.
As the conflict intensifies, the Lebanese health ministry reported significant civilian casualties, with over 1,030 deaths, including women and children, within the last two weeks. Hezbollah, in retaliation, pledged to continue its confrontations with Israel, asserting its support for Gaza and Lebanon’s defense. Meanwhile, Israeli officials have warned of replicating the destruction seen in Gaza within Lebanon if Hezbollah’s attacks persist.

The violence has also prompted international reactions, with President Joe Biden labeling Nasrallah’s killing a measure of justice and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian accusing the United States of backing Israel’s actions. Amid the escalating conflict, the Indian Embassy in Beirut has advised its citizens to avoid travel to Lebanon, highlighting the growing danger in the region. Diplomatic efforts are underway, with European, Arab, and Islamic nations seeking to bolster support for a Palestinian state and prepare for a post-war future in Gaza.
