`The Kerala Story`, a movie based on alleged forced religious conversions of women in the state of Kerala released today on 5th May.

The Kerala Story:-

A controversy surrounds the movie "The Kerala Story" as a BJP leader in Uttar Pradesh announces his plan to show the film to 100 girls to save them from 'love jihad'. Abhijat Mishra, the UP BJP secretary, used a tweet in Hindi to urge others to do the same and Claimed that showing the film could prevent Muslim men from allegedly luring Hindu women into religious conversion through marriage. The film was released in cinemas on Friday, and Mishra's tweet refers to it as "#Kerla_files."

The Uttar Pradesh BJP leader has stated that he will make arrangements to screen "The Kerala Story" to 100 girls and has called on others to do the same, as a way to protect girls from 'love jihad'. The term 'love jihad' is often used by right-wing activists to accuse Muslim men of marrying Hindu women to lure them into religious conversion. "Be alert, be safe," the UP BJP secretary Abhijat Mishra tweeted

The recently released film "The Kerala Story" claims to reveal the truth behind the disappearance of around 32,000 women in Kerala. It narrates the story of a group of women from Kerala who were allegedly converted to Islam and subsequently coerced into joining the terrorist organization ISIS. The movie's creators assert that it is based on the real-life experiences of three young girls from various regions of Kerala.

According to PTI, Mishra was asked why he believes that the film should be shown to girls, to which he responded, "Firstly, love jihad is an insult to love. Secondly, they are making our children anti-national." He added that while everyone is free to practice their religion, it is unacceptable to subject others to physical exploitation and lead them astray.

Mishra further claimed that the movie was not made to target any particular community but to bring to light the reality of "love jihad". "The issue is not about Hindus and Muslims. The issue is about the exploitation of girls," he emphasized. Mishra also called out extremists among Muslims who fund such activities and prey on innocent girls. He said that the movie needs to be shown to girls to raise awareness about the issue and prevent them from falling prey to such nefarious activities. "We have to save our daughters from this. It is our responsibility," he added.

Despite the controversy surrounding the film, both the Supreme Court and the Kerala High Court have dismissed all petitions seeking a ban on the screening of the movie. However, many people have voiced their opposition to the movie, with some calling it divisive and inflammatory. The issue of "love jihad" has been a contentious one in India, with some right-wing groups claiming that it is a conspiracy by Muslim men to convert Hindu women to Islam. On the other hand, many people argue that the term is a political tool used to spread hatred and communal disharmony.

It is worth noting that "The Kerala Story" has sparked controversy and criticism from various quarters. Many people, including filmmakers and actors, have called it an attempt to spread communal hatred and demonize a particular community. Some have also accused the filmmakers of spreading fake news and misinformation to further their political agenda.

In response to the backlash, the director of the movie, Sudipto Sen, has defended his work, saying that the movie is based on real incidents and he has done extensive research to ensure its accuracy. He has also claimed that the movie does not promote any particular ideology or political party.

The controversy surrounding "The Kerala Story" has brought the issue of 'love jihad' to the forefront once again. While there is no denying that cases of forced conversion and marriage do happen, many argue that the term is a misnomer and is used to stoke communal tensions and demonize a particular community.

Critics of the BJP-led government have accused the party of using the issue of 'love jihad' as a political tool to polarize voters and distract from more pressing issues such as the economy, health care, and education. However, the ruling party has maintained that it is a real issue and has vowed to take strict action to curb such incidents.
