The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs for their stance on the Manipur issue on Thursday.
Amidst interruptions and protests from the saffron party, AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak initiated a discussion on the situation in Manipur, leading to the eviction of four BJP MLAs from the assembly.
Kejriwal minced no words in his criticism, asserting that the BJP MLAs' behavior highlighted their detachment from the plight of Manipur.
He claimed that their actions mirrored a message from PM Modi himself, implying a lack of concern for the northeastern state's predicament.
The Delhi Chief Minister highlighted the alarming statistics surrounding the violence in Manipur – over 6,500 FIRs, more than 150 lives lost, 4,000 homes burnt, and approximately 60,000 people left homeless.
The CM criticized the silence of the Prime Minister amidst the turmoil, even as the global stage took note of India's tarnished image due to the situation. Kejriwal pointed out that the European Parliament had discussed the issue, and leaders in the United States condemned the violence, all while PM Modi remained quiet.
Citing the horrific incident where women were stripped and paraded naked, Kejriwal underscored the PM's lack of response, despite his role as a "father figure" to the nation. He emphasized that people remember the Prime Minister in times of systemic failure, questioning the silence in the face of such severe violations of human rights and dignity.
In a recent address on Independence Day, PM Modi touched upon the Manipur situation, acknowledging the loss of lives and suffering endured. He mentioned reports of peace emerging, expressing the nation's solidarity with Manipur.
