The CBI suspects a conspiracy behind the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, implicating ex-principal Sandip Ghosh and police officer Abhijit Mondol. The officer arrived an hour late to the crime scene, and both are accused of downplaying the case. They remain in CBI custody.
The CBI has uncovered new developments in the rape and murder case of a doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. During a court hearing in Sealdah, the agency revealed that Sandip Ghosh, the ex-principal of the college, and Abhijit Mondol, the officer-in-charge of Tala police station, are suspected of being part of a larger conspiracy. Both have been arrested and are currently in CBI custody.
The CBI pointed out that SHO Abhijit Mondol arrived at the crime scene unusually late, despite it being just a five-minute drive away. The police were informed of the crime at 10:03 am, but Mondol did not reach the scene until 11:00 am, raising suspicion. It is alleged that Mondol and Ghosh were in contact after the crime, with Ghosh reportedly advising Mondol on how to handle the investigation.

The victim, a doctor, was raped and murdered inside the hospital’s seminar hall, where she had gone to rest during a 36-hour shift. A civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, has already been arrested in connection with the crime. Ghosh is also being scrutinized for delaying the filing of the FIR and attempting to mislead authorities by framing the murder as a suicide.
