The CBI has charged former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh with evidence tampering in the rape-murder case of a woman medic. Additionally, Tala Police Station officer Abhijit Mondal has been arrested for his alleged role in the case, including destruction of evidence and delaying the FIR.
In a dramatic turn of events, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has charged Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, with evidence tampering in connection with the high-profile rape and murder of a female medic. Ghosh, who is already under judicial custody for unrelated corruption charges, faces these new allegations as the investigation intensifies.
The CBI has also taken into custody Abhijit Mondal, the officer in charge of Tala Police Station, for his suspected involvement in the heinous crime. Mondal, whose jurisdiction includes RG Kar Hospital where the crime took place, was arrested after failing to provide satisfactory explanations during prolonged questioning at the CBI office.
The tragic incident, which came to light on August 9, involved the discovery of the semi-nude body of a postgraduate trainee in a hospital seminar hall. The case has already seen the arrest of one civic volunteer, and now, the CBI’s actions mark a significant escalation in the probe.
Mondal faces charges related to evidence destruction and delay in filing the First Information Report (FIR). Despite being questioned multiple times, Mondal's inconsistent statements contributed to his arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court soon, while Ghosh remains under scrutiny.
