Main Culprit Arrested in Manipur Naked Parade Case Amidst Outrage; Justice Demands Escalate

Huirem Herodas Meitei, the main culprit involved in the shocking incident of women being paraded naked and sexually assaulted in Manipur, has been arrested by the Manipur Police. The arrest followed the viral video of the horrific crime that sparked nationwide outrage. Meitei, aged 32, was apprehended during an early morning operation on Thursday. The police have stated that more arrests are expected in the coming hours, as they have added sections of rape and murder to the FIR filed.

The distressing incident occurred on May 4 in B Phainom village, where an armed mob of 800-1,000 miscreants attacked a family of five who sought refuge in a forest after their village was stormed, looted, and burned. Although the police managed to rescue the family initially, the mob later surrounded them near Toubul, just two kilometers from the Nongpok Sekmai police station. The mob took the family from police custody and subjected them to horrifying violence. A 56-year-old man was killed on the spot, and the three women were disrobed and paraded naked. Furthermore, a 21-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by the mob.

The FIR also reported the murder of a 19-year-old youth who tried to protect his sister from the mob's assault. Despite the grim circumstances, the three women were able to escape with the help of locals.

The shocking video and the gravity of the crime have sparked widespread anger across the country, leading to demands for swift justice and accountability for all those involved in the incident. The Manipur Police have assured the public that more culprits will be apprehended as investigations continue.
