Two Pune doctors arrested for allegedly tampering with the blood sample of teen driver accused in deadly Porsche crash that killed two, amid claims of an attempted cover-up by a wealthy family.
The two doctors from Sassoon General Hospital have been arrested for allegedly tampering with the blood sample of the teenage driver in the high-profile Pune Porsche crash case.
Pune police chief Amitesh Kumar has said that Dr. Ajay Taware, who heads the forensic department, and Dr. Shrihari Harnor, the chief medical officer, have been accused of forgery, evidence tampering, and other offenses linked to manipulating the blood test result of the 17-year-old son of a construction tycoon.
The case came to national prominence on the 19th of May when a teenager, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, rammed a Porsche Taycan into a motorcycle, which resulted in the death of two young software engineers near Kalyani Nagar.
Further, commissioner Kumar exposed some shocking facts, as he said that the blood sample collected from the teen driver on May 19 at Sassoon Hospital was thrown into a dustbin. Dr. Harnor then allegedly replaced it with the blood sample of another person who had not taken alcohol before submitting the sample to the forensic laboratory following the instructions of Dr. Taware.
In the course of the investigation, we discovered that Srihari Harnor replaced this [sample] following instructions from the HOD forensic medicine department of Sassoon, Ajay Tawre,” Kumar said during a press conference.
The arrests were made at a time when the public was already incensed with the case, where the teenage driver was bailed out by the Juvenile Justice Board and was only made to write an essay on road accidents as punishment. However after the police filed a review application, he was later transferred to an observation home until June 5th.
The police have also arrested the teenager’s father, Vishal Agarwal, a successful real estate businessman, and his father Surendra Agarwal who had reportedly kidnapped their family driver and tried to force him to accept responsibility for the accident.
