Former Member of Parliament and senior Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi, lashed out at the BJP-led Central government in a video on Twitter, accusing them of prioritizing power over the well-being of the country and its people. As the logjam continues over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on the violence in Manipur, the Opposition has been pressing for a detailed discussion on the issue during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
In the video, Rahul Gandhi stated,'BJP-RSS only wants power and can do anything to get it. For power, they will burn Manipur, they will burn the whole country. They do not care about the sorrows and pain of the people.' He emphasized that those who genuinely love India feel hurt when any violence erupts in any part of the nation, but the BJP and RSS seem indifferent to the suffering of the people.
The current impasse in Parliament arose after Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) as the most directionless the country has ever seen, drawing references to reviled names like the East India Company and Indian Mujahideen (IM). In response, Rahul Gandhi asserted, 'Call us whatever you want, Mr. Modi. We are INDIA. We will help heal Manipur and wipe the tears of every woman and child. We will bring back love and peace for all her people. We will rebuild the idea of India in Manipur.'
The Opposition has been demanding a detailed discussion on the situation in Manipur during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The Centre has expressed its readiness for a debate, but the stalemate continues as the Opposition insists on suspending all business to address the Manipur issue in Rajya Sabha. Moreover, they have also demanded that the Prime Minister personally address Parliament regarding the matter.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has offered to present the government's position, but the Opposition has remained firm in their demand for a statement from the Prime Minister himself.
