The IMD announced the withdrawal of the monsoon from Delhi and most parts of northwest India. Conditions are favorable for further retreat over the next few days, with more rain expected in southern and northeastern regions due to cyclonic activity.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that the monsoon has withdrawn from most parts of northwest India, including Delhi, and some regions of central India. The conditions are favorable for further withdrawal from the remaining areas over the next two to three days. This marks the seasonal retreat of the Southwest Monsoon.
The IMD reported that the 2024 monsoon season saw 8% more rainfall than usual, primarily due to more intense low-pressure systems, particularly in August and September. Significant rainfall was recorded in Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal in the past 24 hours.
A cyclonic circulation over southeast Bangladesh and the nearby region is expected to form a low-pressure area in the North Bay of Bengal by October 4, leading to possible rainfall in those regions.

Monsoon withdrawal is expected to continue from parts of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra within the next few days. However, the southern and northeastern regions of India will continue to experience light to moderate rainfall throughout the week.
