Muslim Couple Beaten to Death in Uttar Pradesh, Three Arrested

A Muslim couple in the Uttar Pradesh city of Sitapur was allegedly murdered by their Hindu neighbours. 

The brutal assault took place on Friday and included the use of iron rods and sticks; the pair died instantly. Three people were quickly detained by the police in connection with the investigation.

According to reports, the savage murder was spurred by an affair between the accused man's daughter and the victim's son. It is believed that the neighbours of Abbas and Kamrul Nisha attacked them because their son had an affair with the daughter of one of the accused.

The police chief of Sitapur, Chakresh Mishra, claims that a few years ago, the couple's son eloped with a girl from the next-door family, resulting in the filing of a case and the subsequent detention of the parents. Members of the girl's relatives allegedly plotted and carried out the fatal attack on the pair after the son's recent release from prison.

It was also said by villagers that the couple's son had an affair with Ruby, the daughter of one of the key suspects, Shaukat Rampal. In 2020, when Ruby was still a minor, Shaukat stole her, leading to his imprisonment. Shaukat, however, kidnapped Ruby in June and remarried her. The terrible attack on the couple is thought to have been fuelled by this convoluted chain of events.

The police have detained three of the primary suspects and are still looking for two others. The tragedy has sent shockwaves across the neighbourhood, underscoring the need to keep the peace and address social concerns that are interconnected with care and speed.
