The nation is in mourning after the passing of legendary industrialist Ratan Tata, who passed away at 86 in Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on Wednesday night. Tata, who transformed the Tata Group into a global conglomerate, was admired for his visionary leadership and philanthropic contributions.
On Thursday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended condolences to Ratan Tata’s brother, Noel Tata. In heartfelt messages on social media, Modi described Tata as a "visionary leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being." The Prime Minister praised Tata’s commitment to social causes such as education, healthcare, and animal welfare. Recalling their past interactions, Modi expressed deep grief and honored Tata’s legacy.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the funeral on behalf of the Indian government. Maharashtra's government has declared a state-wide day of mourning on Thursday, with flags flown at half-mast and no entertainment events scheduled. Tata's funeral will take place in Mumbai’s Worli area later in the day, and his mortal remains will be kept at the National Centre for Performing Arts for the public to pay their last respects.
