NCERT Adds 'A Tribute to Our Valiant Soldiers' to Class 7 Textbook

With the aim of instilling patriotism, dedication to duty, and courage in school children, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced a significant addition to the Class 7 English textbook. 

Entitled 'A Tribute to Our Valiant Soldiers,' this chapter has been included as the concluding section in the 'Honeycomb' textbook, according to the Council's online platform.

This initiative is the result of a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education. Their joint objective is not only to nurture patriotic values but also to boost youth involvement in the nation's development, as outlined in a statement from the Defense Ministry.

This newly integrated chapter delves into the history, importance, and core essence of the National War Memorial. It pays homage to the remarkable sacrifices made by the Armed Forces in the post-Independence era. Furthermore, it employs a correspondence between two friends to convey their profound appreciation for the liberty they enjoy, courtesy of these heroic sacrifices.

Within the chapter, the students' letters mention the names of numerous courageous individuals, including Lance Naik Albert Ekka, Major Padmapani Acharya, Captain Anuj Nayyar, and Major Somnath Sharma, among others, lauding their contributions and selflessness.

Additionally, the chapter offers an in-depth exploration of the 'Amar Jawan Jyoti' flame, symbolising the enduring spirit of fallen soldiers and the nation's enduring commitment to never forget their sacrifices.

Despite this noteworthy inclusion, certain schools are still unaware of the chapter's introduction, expressing concerns about its timing amid the ongoing academic session. Nonetheless, this development seeks to cultivate a sense of national pride and commemorate the sacrifices of those who dedicated their lives in service to the nation.
