A woman tragically died, and four others are in critical condition after delivering babies at Midnapore Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) in West Bengal. The incident has prompted the state health department to form a 13-member investigative panel.

Family members of the deceased woman alleged that expired Ringer's Lactate (RL) IV fluid was administered, leading to her death. They have filed a complaint at the Kotwali police station. The woman, who gave birth on Wednesday, passed away on Friday.

"The family of the deceased has alleged expired IV fluid as the cause of death. We have received complaints from the affected families, and an investigation is underway," stated a health department official. Samples of the RL fluid have been collected, and a report from the drug control authority is awaited.
