The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially declared that Pakistan's general elections will be held in the final week of January 2024.

The previous government, led by Shehbaz Sharif, had raised concerns by asserting that elections should only occur once a new census was completed, potentially delaying the electoral process into the next year.

According to constitutional norms, elections were originally meant to be conducted within 90 days of the dissolution of the National Assembly. However, the government's insistence on completing the census had cast doubts on this timeline.

The ECP faced pressure from various political parties in Pakistan to expedite the delimitation process, which typically takes around four months to finalize.
