Paris 2024 is the starting gun of Olympics excitement

Paris 2024 Olympics began with Great Britain's strong start, winning bronze in diving and silver in cycling. France celebrated gold in rugby sevens. Notable performances in swimming, tennis, and other sports set the stage for an exciting Games.

The Olympic Games in Paris 2024 kicked off on Saturday and Great Britain had the best opening day in 44 years. Nevertheless, rainy weather was present after the grand opening ceremony on Friday, yet athletes managed to show great outcomes in various disciplines.

Team GB then gained two medals in the first attempt of the tournament; Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen bagged bronze in the women’s synchronized 3m springboard. This was the first women’s diving medal for Britain in the Olympics in the last 64 years. Shortly after, cyclist Anna Henderson was able to secure a silver spot in the women’s time trial despite the dangerous weather and finishing behind Grace Brown of Australia.

France, the host nation, also triumphed quickly, securing gold in men’s rugby sevens. It was the final match of the competition where French team under captaincy of Antoine Dupont thrashed the reigning champions Fiji by 28-7 in a spectacular finale at Stade de France. France scored the remaining medals – a bronze from the women’s event in judo and a silver from the men’s event in judo.

In swimming, Britain’s Adam peaty seems ready to defend his title of 100m breaststroke championship, the swimmer won his heat and semi-final. The final is set to take place in the evening of Sunday.

Some other momentous achievements were a record Olympic performance by Laura Collett in eventing dressage, team performances in hockey, gymnastics and rowing.

Tennis players also got into the Olympic Games for the first time with Spanish pair Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz coming from the first match of the doubles category. There were easy wins for Novak Djokovic in his singles match while Iga Swiatek also emerged victorious in her match at Roland Garros.
