On October 31, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Diwali with soldiers from the Border Security Force (BSF), Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force at Lakki Nala in the Sir Creek area of Gujarat's Kutch district. This annual tradition, started in 2014, underscores Modi’s commitment to honor the country's armed forces during the festival of lights.

During his visit to the BSF outpost near the Pakistan border, Modi interacted with the troops, sharing festive greetings and acknowledging the challenging conditions they endure. "This is an extremely inhospitable place, with scorching days and frigid nights," an official noted, highlighting the difficulties faced by soldiers stationed in such terrains.

In a gesture reflecting goodwill and diplomatic relations, Indian and Chinese troops also exchanged sweets at several border points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on the same day, marking a thaw in tensions following recent troop disengagements in eastern Ladakh. This sweet exchange occurred at various Border Personnel Meeting points, including Bum La and Chushul-Moldo, signaling a spirit of camaraderie amid regional challenges.
