Prime Minister Narendra Modi has concluded his swift yet highly productive visit to Indonesia, where he actively participated in the 20th ASEAN-India Summit and the 18th East Asia Summit.
During the ASEAN-India Summit, the Prime Minister engaged in extensive discussions with ASEAN partners, aiming to bolster the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and chart a course for its future trajectory. He reiterated the pivotal role of ASEAN in the Indo-Pacific and underscored the alignment between India's Indo-Pacific Ocean's Initiative (IPOI) and ASEAN’s Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). Additionally, he stressed the urgency of expediting the review of the ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement (AITIGA).
The Prime Minister presented a comprehensive 12-point proposal aimed at enhancing collaboration between India and ASEAN, encompassing areas such as connectivity, digital transformation, trade and economic cooperation, addressing contemporary challenges, fostering people-to-people ties, and deepening strategic engagement.
At the East Asia Summit, Prime Minister Modi highlighted its critical significance as a leaders-led platform for dialogue and cooperation on strategic matters within the Indo-Pacific region. He emphasized its pivotal role as a primary mechanism for building confidence in Asia.
Expressing his gratitude on social media, Prime Minister Modi thanked President Joko Widodo, the Indonesian Government, and the people for their warm welcome. He returned to New Delhi ahead of the upcoming G20 Summit scheduled for September 9 and 10.
