PM Narendra Modi complains, says he misses a ‘strong’ opposition

In an interview, PM Modi lamented the lack of a "strong opposition," saying it pains him, as a robust opposition is vital for democracy to thrive.
In the interview, Modi expressed regret for the absence of a ‘strong opposition’ in Indian politics while he served as the Prime Minister of India consecutively from 2014-2024. Modi stated that a strong opposition is very important to maintain democracy because they act as monitors of the government.
”In a democracy, it is essential that there is a proper opposition, which keeps the government on the sword edge and the toes such opposition is very much required,” Modi said to CNN-News18. This statement was said by the late John Smith and if there is one thing that is missing in my life it's a good opposition.
The Prime Minister was fully aware of the fact that there is no shortage of talent in India, but the recognized opposition parties have not posed any serious challenge to his government for the past ten years. He told a group of his party that the Congress party that was in power in India for 60 years did not do anything useful or give him useful advice when he became the PM in 2014.
Modi said, “I had benefited from Pranab Mukherjee until he was there as he used to share his experience with me. From the opposition, I did not get anything Out of my party colleagues, and my experience as Gujarat CM, I only benefited.
The Prime Minister also accused the opposition of making much ado and voting against anything good for the country simply because it wanted to score cheap political points, something that the opposition used to champion in the past. ”This is good. In a large democracy like India one must have a robust Opposition, an informed Opposition, a vibrant Opposition, a fully educated one, this is in the self-interest of everyone, he said.
Modi spoke of the abuse he had received from his opponents and some sections of the media for more than 20 years and how he had been depicted as a demon on magazine covers. But he never seemed to lose his temper and cool; he said: “I never got angry or upset, now they have to put my smiling face on the cover, I do my job. ”

The Prime Minister stressed the need to refrain from using abusive language and vulgar language in public, pointing out that criticism should be constructive.
