President Xi Jinping Addresses Troops on India-China Border, Inquires About Living Standards

On January 18th, Chinese President Xi Jinping held a video conference with the People's Liberation Army (PLA) stationed near the India-China border in Eastern Ladakh. During this meeting, which took place at the PLA headquarters, President Xi assessed the troops' combat readiness and addressed them about the border defence situation in Khunjerab under the jurisdiction of the Xinjiang Military Command.

The Xinjiang Military Command has the responsibility of managing the border areas in Eastern Ladakh, which have experienced tensions since April 2020 due to repeated incursions by the PLA.   President Xi Jinping President Xi Jinping In his capacity as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and Commander-in-Chief of the PLA, President Xi acknowledged the evolving nature of the region in recent times and its impact on the Chinese army. Despite 17 rounds of high-level military talks between India and China, no meaningful resolution has been reached regarding the border dispute, particularly in Eastern Ladakh, which has become a source of tension between the two nations. India has taken a firm stance on the issue, asserting that border instability and trade cannot coexist, and has taken steps to decrease its dependence on Chinese goods.
