Drama unfolded at the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Mumbai as two lawyers vied to represent Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, the accused in the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. The alleged assailant, suspected to be a Bangladeshi national, was arrested on Sunday morning in Thane after two earlier misidentifications by police.

Shehzad allegedly entered Khan's Bandra apartment on January 16 with the intent to steal but ended up stabbing the actor multiple times. The 54-year-old actor, rushed to Lilavati Hospital for emergency surgery, is currently recovering and expected to be discharged soon.

The courtroom witnessed a scuffle between two lawyers attempting to secure Shehzad's authorisation to represent him. Both claimed to act on his behalf, leading to confusion and a brief impasse. The magistrate intervened, suggesting that both lawyers represent the accused, a solution they ultimately agreed to.

Shehzad has been remanded in police custody for five days. Authorities revealed that he had been living in Mumbai for the past five months, working in petty jobs, including housekeeping.
