Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Maharashtra to inaugurate major projects, including the ₹76,000 crore Vadhvan Port and fisheries initiatives worth ₹1,560 crore. He will address the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai and launch a vessel communication system, aiming to boost economic growth and technological advancement in the state.
Today, on 30th August 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to visit Maharashtra to inaugurate several major projects that are expected to give a fillip to the state’s economy and infrastructure. The day’s schedule involves responding to a global financial technology conference in Mumbai and launching a multi-billion-dollar port project in Palghar.
The Prime Minister’s schedule starts with Mumbai where he will be addressing the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) at the Jio World Convention Centre. This global event will be held by the major stakeholders in the Indian financial technology industry and will feature more than 800 speakers from different countries to deliberate on the current developments and trends in the fintech industry.
After the engagement in Mumbai, Modi will visit Palghar to inaugurate the foundation stone of the mega Vadhvan Port project. This deep water port is expected to cost ₹76,000 crore and will be one of the largest ports in India which will greatly improve the maritime strength and trade of the country.
Besides the port project, the Prime Minister will also launch and lay the foundation for several other fisheries related projects across the country that will cost ₹1,560 crore. These measures are expected to generate more than 500000 direct and indirect employment opportunities in the sector and involve the construction of fishing harbours, integrated aqua parks and the application of modern technologies in aquaculture.

One of the main points of the visit will be the beginning of the National Rollout of Vessel Communication and Support System, a ₹360 crore project based on the indigenous technology created by ISRO. This system is intended to improve the safety and communication of fishing boats operating along the Indian coast.
Modi also showed his excitement about the visit through his social media accounts, stressing on the significance of these projects for the development of Maharashtra and India’s vision of port-led development. The measures reflect the government’s commitment to technology, shipping, and sustainable development.
