The heartbreak of New Zealand's loss fueled his dream to represent his cricket-mad nation on the grandest stage.

Now, in 2023, Rachin Ravindra stands as one of New Zealand's emerging stars. He's a talented batter with a keen interest in left-arm spin. Recently, he left a mark with a gutsy 97 as an opener in a World Cup warm-up match against Pakistan.

Born to Indian parents in Wellington, Rachin shares a deep connection with cricket-crazy India. His Test debut in India was a dream come true, and now he's poised to make his World Cup debut there. Reflecting on his Test debut, he said, "Playing in India, experiencing the fanfare, is pretty special. My parents are from Bangalore, and playing a World Cup here is amazing." His journey from a pub in Bangalore, watching the 2019 final, to being part of the 2023 World Cup squad is a story of dedication and perseverance.

Rachin fondly recalls that night when he and fellow New Zealanders were fervently supporting their team against England. Though India's semi-final exit had left some emotional scars, it created a unique atmosphere in the bar.

When asked if he ever imagined being part of the 2023 World Cup, Rachin said, "You always dream of it. It's pretty cool how it has come to fruition." Rachin's versatility in opening for Wellington and middle-order batting for New Zealand showcases his adaptability. While he may not open regularly in the tournament, he's ready to embrace any role that contributes to his team's success. Rachin Ravindra's journey exemplifies the dreams, dedication, and triumphs that define the spirit of cricket.
