 Rahane smashes MS Dhoni's record in whirlwind performance for CSK

 

Ajinkya Rahane made his Chennai Super Kings (CSK) debut one to remember with a spectacular performance that stole the limelight at the Wankhede Stadium. With spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner in their ranks, an injury-hit CSK was up against Mumbai Indians (MI) in a crucial IPL 2023 clash.

 But it was Rahane who provided the fireworks, scoring IPL 2023's fastest half-century and breaking captain MS Dhoni's 11-year-old record in the tournament in the process.

Chasing 158 to win, CSK suffered an early blow as opener Devon Conway was dismissed by Jason Behrendorff in the fourth ball of the innings. However, Rahane stepped up to the plate, taking charge of the partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad and leaving the young batsman in awe of his brilliance.

Rahane's whirlwind 23-run over off uncapped Indian bowler Arshad Khan was a sight to behold, featuring a six over fine leg, followed by four consecutive boundaries that showcased his impeccable timing and technique. His half-century came in just 19 balls, tying him with Moeen Ali for the joint-second fastest by a CSK batsman.
