Rahul Gandhi interacts with the victims affected by the ethnic clash between Bodos and Manipuris in Assam

Rahul Gandhi visited Assam to meet Manipur residents displaced by ethnic violence. He interacted with people at relief camps, promising to raise their issues in Parliament. Gandhi's tour includes visits to camps in Manipur and a meeting with the state's Governor.
Congress MP and opposition leader in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday reached Assam to meet the people affected from Manipur’s Jiribam area. The visit was made at the backdrop of the continued ethnic clashes in Manipur that has lead to many people being forced to flee to other states.
Gandhi reached Silchar airport at about 10 AM and then went to Hmarkhawlien in Hmarkhawlien area of Cachar district’s Lakhipur. He visited a relief camp in Thalai and asked the affected people to express their grievances and he will take them to the Parliament. The evicted people also gave memo to Gandhi containing their complaints.
About 1700 persons from Jiribam, Manipur took shelter in Assam last month as violence has erupted afresh in their state. The ethnic conflict in Manipur has caused a lot of tension and also forced people to flee their homes.
After the relief camp in Assam Gandhi has planned a road journey in a car to Jiribam, Manipur where he intends to visit another relief camp at Jiribam Higher Secondary School. He is then to be flown back to Silchar and then to Imphal, the capital of Manipur state.
In Imphal, Gandhi is scheduled to take a tour of the affected areas like Churachandpur district and a relief camp at Mandap in Tuibong. He is also to visit Moirang, an area predominantly populated by the Meiteis, and then to visit a relief camp at Phubala High School.
The Congress leader’s day will come to an end with a meeting with Manipur Governor Dr. Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan in Imphal.

This visit of Rahul Gandhi point towards the continued strife in the humanitarian sectors in Manipur and other states affected by ethnic conflict. It also points to the action taken by the opposition to seek a solution to the problem and draw the attention of nationals to the fate of displaced people.
