Doctors at Sarojini Naidu Children's Hospital in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, achieved a remarkable medical feat by conducting a four-hour-long surgery on a seven-month-old infant suffering from an uncommon condition called foetus in fetu. During the intricate procedure, a 2-kilogram foetus was extracted from the child's abdomen.

The infant's father, a farmer from the Kunda area in Pratapgarh district, brought the child to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital on July 24, seeking medical help for the child's swollen stomach and intense pain. Leading the medical team, Dr D Kumar conducted a comprehensive examination, including a CT scan, which astonishingly revealed the presence of a foetus inside the infant's abdomen. Tragically, the child's mother had passed away during childbirth, as disclosed by the doctor.

Foetus in fetu is a rare and intriguing medical condition wherein a malformed and parasitic foetus develops inside the body of its twin. It occurs when one of the twins grows inside the mother's womb, while the other mistakenly forms inside the body of its sibling.

After the successful surgery, the infant's health has significantly improved. This extraordinary achievement showcases the expertise and dedication of the medical professionals involved in the operation, leaving the medical community in awe of their skills.
