The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in India has detected over 8,500 suspected cases of heat-related illnesses since March 1, according to their Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme. Several states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh, have reported a few deaths related to heat illnesses this year.

The NCDC is actively monitoring and surveilling these cases as per the instructions of the Union health ministry. They have reported a total of 8,885 suspected cases so far while also providing necessary training to field officers in the states when needed.

Additionally, there was an unfortunate incident last month in Maharashtra where 11 people died due to heat stroke during a political event.

In response, the Union health ministry has directed health facilities across all states and Union Territories to prepare for heat-related illnesses by ensuring the availability of essential medicines, intravenous fluids, ice packs, and oral rehydration solutions (ORS), among other resources.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recently predicted that there would be no significant change in maximum temperatures over central and western India in the next 24 hours.

However, a decrease in temperature by 2-4 degrees Celsius is expected thereafter.

Northwest India may experience a drop in maximum temperatures by 4-6 degrees Celsius in the next two days, with no significant change expected afterward.

Eastern parts of the country may see a decrease of 2-4 degrees Celsius in temperature over the next two days, with no major changes thereafter.

The rest of the country is likely to maintain its current maximum temperature for the next five days, according to the IMD's forecast.
